Meet the Coaches

Amy Houston - ASCA Level 2 Age Group Certified -  Head Coach

Coach Amy grew up in Auburn Ohio, and always enjoyed swimming.  She joined the Kenston High School swim team in its first two years of existence, and then went on to attend Allegheny College in Meadville Pennsylvania.

It is there she began her coaching career as an Assistant Coach for the Meadville YMCA Swim Team.  Under the mentorship of Head Coach Pete Coppelli, she began to develop her toolbox of coaching techniques.  After 4 1/2 years of coaching there (and attending college), she returned to the area, holding positions as an Assistant Coach for the Solon Stars and then as Head Coach of the Orange Sea Lions.

Seeing a need to fill a gap in the community in which she grew up and still resides, in 2000, Amy brought swimming to Geauga county with Vortex Swimming, a USA Swimming team based out of Bainbridge.  In 2004, the team joined forces with the local YMCA to become the Geauga Y Otters.

Besides swimming, Amy is a mom thrice over and enjoys spending time with her kids - so far, they still know who she is :-).  She enjoys tennis, swimming, cooking, and reading, and has a strong background in computers.

       Matt Parrish - Assistant Coach

Coach Matt started swimming competitively when he was 6 years old. At the age of 10 he started winning state titles. During his youth swimming years Coach Matt held multiple age group swimming state records in the state of Michigan. He was a 21 time All American in high school and set 5 state records and a national record in the 200 Freestyle relay.

Coach Matt attended the University of Tennessee on a swimming scholarship and during his senior year he earned All American honors twice.

Coach Matt has been coaching for 14 years.  He has coached teams with as few as 20 swimmers and as many as 200 swimmers with all ages and all skill levels. This is Coach Matt's third year coaching with the Geauga Otters and he was recently the Head Coach of the Chardon Sharks Summer Swim Team.

He enjoys working with kids, and 2 years ago he and his wife had a baby girl, Stella. Coach Matt also has two other children (Alex and Lindsay) that he was blessed to inherit when he married his wife Lori. Coach Matt looks forward to a wonderfully white winter with all of you.
