Coach Amy grew up in Auburn Ohio, and always enjoyed
swimming. She joined the Kenston High School swim team in its
first two years of existence, and then went on to attend Allegheny
College in Meadville Pennsylvania.
It is there she began her coaching career as an
Assistant Coach for the Meadville YMCA Swim Team. Under the
mentorship of Head Coach Pete Coppelli, she began to develop her toolbox
of coaching techniques. After 4 1/2 years of coaching there (and
attending college), she returned to the area, holding positions as an
Assistant Coach for the Solon Stars and then as Head Coach of the Orange
Sea Lions.
Seeing a need to fill a gap in the community in which
she grew up and still resides, in 2000, Amy brought swimming to Geauga
county with Vortex Swimming, a USA Swimming team based out of Bainbridge.
In 2004, the team joined forces with the local YMCA to become the Geauga
Y Otters.
Besides swimming, Amy is a mom
thrice over and enjoys spending time with her kids - so far, they still
know who she is :-).
She enjoys tennis, swimming, cooking, and reading, and has a strong
background in computers.
