Youth Team - Group Placement
As you read the group descriptions, you will notice some overlap in age due to swimmers having different swimming background and ability. Group placement is based more on their abilities in the water than their age. The coaches have the final say in determining group placement.
| The Sea Urchins | This is the most novice group of the swim team. Swimmers are generally age 7-10 and must be able to swim at least 50 yards freestyle (2 lengths without stopping). |
| The Crayfish | This group of swimmers are generally age 9-14. They must be able to swim a set of 3 x 100 freestyle. They should be able to legally swim at least 50 yards of 2 of the 3 other competitive strokes (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke). |
| The Mussels | This group of swimmers are generally age 13-18. They must be able to swim a set of 4 x 100 freestyle on 1:40 or better. They should be able to legally swim at least 100 yards of each of the other 3 competitive strokes. |
| High School | This group is optional for High School students at Chardon High School. Swimmers must be able to swim a set of 4 x 100 freestyle on 1:40 or better. They should be able to legally swim at least 100 yards of each of the other 3 competitive strokes. Five practices per week is REQUIRED. |
